
Coorg is a mesmerizing hill station of South India which is famous for its coffee plantations,
Compiling a list of ‘places to visit’ in Coorg had been tough because there are many mesmerizing view points, enthralling waterfalls and treks.
But I kept in mind an average tourist who would spend maximum 3-4 days at a single location. Unless you want to rush from place to place, this list would keep you busy for 3 days. This is also not in the order of preference. So here are the Top places in Coorg you should consider visiting.

Talakaveri :
Located around 45 km from Madikeri, this is a place of birth of the river Kaveri and the location has a temple now. Immediately next to the temple Brahmagiri hill offers beautiful panoramic view of surrounding hills. Entry timings 6am to 8:30 pm.


2 Sri Bhagandeswara temple:
It is located in Bhagamandala where the river Kaveri is met by two other rivers and called ‘Triveni Sangama’. There is a beautiful temple built for Lord Shiva. Timings 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. 6:00 pm to 7:00pm.
3. Abbey falls:
This small yet beautiful falls is located around 8 kms from Madikeri amidst a welcoming greenery. However, taking bath or any other activities in the falls is not allowed. Entry Fee: 15 rs. Timings: 9am -5pm.

4. Omkareshwara temple:
Small temple in the town of Madikeri with a picturesque surroundings.Timings: 6:30 am-12 pm, 5pm-8:30pm
5. Raja’s seat:
This view point for sunset where the Rajas supposedly enjoyed their evenings, now attracts tourists with promise of panoramic views of hills and beautiful sunsets. A new attraction is musical fountain evenings.There is a toy train too. Entry Fee 5rs for park and 20 rs for toy train. Timings: 5:30am -8pm.

6. Raja’s tomb:
These are the tombs of King Virarajendra, Linga Rajendra and one of their court priests was built in the 18th century. Now there is a small park developed around it.
7. Dubare elephant camp:
Once a place where the Royal elephants used be trained, this place now attracts tourists with various activities. It is around 37 kms from Madikeri.. Entry 20rs. Elephant bathing- 100rs. Timings: 9am-11am and 4:30 to 5:30pm.

8.Dubare river rafting and other activities:
There are many agencies which can be booked online and offer various activities. Duration ranges from 30 mins, 1hr, 2hrs. Price range 750-1000 rs. Other activities include Kayaking, Zip lining and ATV ride.
9.Nisargadhama :
Around 30 km from Madikeri, this is a small island formed by river Kaveri and has been developed into a tourist spot.Timings: 9am to 5pm. Entry: 10rs, Boat ride 100 rs, Elephant ride : 25rs, Stay: around 1000 rs
10. Coffee plantations:
Coorg is full of coffee and spice plantations. It is so full, that the entire route between Kushalnagar and Madikeri is full of that mouth watering aroma. I have never experienced that before in any other location. Many coffee plantations offer tours; some even offer stays.
11. Chiklihole Reservoir:
23 km from Madikeri and away from all the hustle of tourists. 8am – 5pm
12.Madikeri Fort:
17th century fort, later rebuilt by Tipu Sultan. Timings 10 am- 5:30 pm. Closed on monday.
13. Mandalpatti trek:
Around 20 km from Madikeri, this trek offers solace in the lap of nature and some stunning views.
14. Honnamana Kere lake:
48 km from Madikeri and is the largest lake in the region. It attracts nature lovers and religious tourists equally with a temple of Goddess Honnamma at the bank. Timings: 8am-6pm.
15. Namdroling monastery :
Also known as Golden Temple. It is situated in Bylakuppe, around 36 kms from Madikeri— in the Mysore route. It is one of the most fascinating religious places I have visited.
